Bobby on Being the Focus of a Documentary…

It's weird. Maybe that's not the most profound way to describe the experience, but it fits. It's really weird. Having cameras follow you around while you're told to "act natural" is quite surreal. In this self-conscious world where The Truman Show pop culture references abound and convergent television/new media projects pride themselves on being "voyeuristic", the stink of celebrity can get quite foul. (Could this possibly be contributing to Toronto's heatwave?)

"What does this mini-rant truly mean?"

You may be asking yourselves this, and my reply is, quite frankly, I don't know. What I do know is that television is not real, my friends. This may come as no surprise to you, but I have been rapidly learning that the world of make-believe is just that.

The documentary will undoubtedly prove some sort of fodder for specific target markets and I am lucky enough to be the product-du-jour. Purchase me if you will. In some sort of paradoxical nightmarish kind of way, I have made myself available to the highest bidder.

I masochistically desire fame of some sort and I have been blessed by the Faustian gods to have my wish granted.

Enjoy me.

Drink me up.

But don't think for a second that I buy any of it.

I am truly grateful to the creators of this wonderful documentary for their hard work, but I would be remiss if I did not boldly state my disillusion and simultaneous awe over the "fruits" of this medium. The world consists of Fake Plastic Trees (Radiohead, The Bends, track #4) my friends. I hope you enjoy the documentary and I hope I enjoy the documentary, but most importantly, I hope that no one ever thinks that this documentary or articles written about me in newspapers or any other form of propaganda mean anything more to me than promotional tools. I have been blessed by the machine to be marketable enough for them to care about me and I hope that you all will join me on this strange and dangerous voyage which is only just beginning.

Bobman

The Documentary will appear on the television series Center Stage Chronicles
